A guy who stabbed a 20- year-old to death in a parking area after a battle in a bar in Cornwall has actually been jailed for a minimum of 21 years.

Carl Smythe, 46, of Liskeard, was founded guilty on Tuesday of murdering Damien Bendelow.

Smythe stabbed Mr Bendelow, who he had never met before, six times as he walked throughout a parking lot on 26 January.

Mr Bendelow’s mom stated her life had actually been “shattered” and she was living a “life sentence of hurt and discomfort”.

The court heard Smythe had been drinking greatly at the White Horse in Liskeard, where drinkers explained him as being upset and aggressive.

Jurors were told Mr Bendelow’s good friends attempted to break up a battle and Smythe hit 2 girls while being forced out from the properties.

Outside, Smythe ran towards Mr Bendelow as he was crossing the Cattle Market cars and truck park later with good friends, appearing to punch him and after that ranging from the scene.

Mr Bendelow died later in health center.

In a victim effect statement, Mr Bendelow’s mother Tracy Blackie said: “My life is shattered, every day I get up to the very same nightmare – my Damien is no longer with me.”

His father Gary Bendelow stated he had a “consistent empty feeling inside me”, including: “I think a part of me passed away when he passed away.”

Sentencing, Judge Simon Carr said the killing was a “ridiculous murder … over some petty sense of grievance”.

He stated there had actually been no provocation and he believed “the scene in the Cattle Market will haunt the young people who were present for a very long time”.

Richard Smith QC, defending, stated Smythe was “sorry”.

Smythe got a compulsory life sentence at Truro Crown Court.
